Cardio Programme

FitSmart’s Cardio Programme is built for steady home fitness progress, using heart rate based planning to keep sessions practical and consistent. We help you choose the right tracker and cardio equipment, then map a plan that suits your space, schedule and current fitness level.

What the Cardio Programme covers

The Cardio Programme is for people who want a clear home training plan instead of guessing which pace, resistance or duration to use. We work around your current fitness, available equipment, and whether your goal is general conditioning, weight loss support, or better endurance for sport and daily life. The plan can be used with a treadmill, spin bike, rower, air bike, skipping rope, or a simple walking routine indoors and outdoors.

Most clients in Fourways, Sandton, Midrand, Randburg, Roodepoort and Pretoria East start with a basic assessment of time available, training days, and recovery needs. We then set your heart rate zones and session structure. If you already wear a fitness tracker, we can help you set alerts and display options so you can train with more consistency, not just by feel. It keeps things practical and easier to stick to, even when load-shedding or weather gets in the way.

  • Heart rate zone planning for fat burn, aerobic base and interval work
  • Equipment matching for home use and available floor space
  • Weekly session outline with warm-up, work phase and cool down
  • Tracker setup help for alerts, step count and recovery tracking
  • Guidance for safe progression if you are starting from low fitness

How we set your programme up

The process starts with a short intake so we can understand your routine, current fitness and any injuries or medical limits. From there, we recommend the right mix of equipment and training style. For some clients, a 30 minute walk and monitored incline work is enough to begin. Others want structured interval sessions on a bike or rower, with recovery days built in. We keep the plan realistic because a programme only works if you can repeat it week after week.

Once the basics are confirmed, we send a simple training outline and explain how to use your tracker during each session. If you need a home gym layout check, Michael and the team can advise on spacing, power points, matting and airflow. This is useful in apartments, garages and compact homes where the room must be used properly. We also help clients who train early before work or late after school runs, so the routine fits around family life.

  • Step 1: intake and goal setting
  • Step 2: equipment and space review
  • Step 3: heart rate zones and session planning
  • Step 4: tracker pairing and alert setup
  • Step 5: first week adjustment after feedback

What is included in the service

The Cardio Programme includes practical support rather than generic advice. You get a clear session structure, target heart rate ranges, and a progression plan that can be followed at home. If your tracker supports it, we guide you on using live heart rate, recovery time and activity summaries. For clients who want more accountability, we can add virtual check ins so the plan stays on track and small issues are sorted early.

We also factor in South African conditions. In hotter months, training times may need to shift to earlier mornings or later evenings. In coastal humidity, recovery can feel harder, so rest periods and hydration matter more. For people dealing with load-shedding, we suggest equipment and session options that still work without power, so your training does not stop every time the lights go out. Simple, but it helps.

  • Home cardio plan matched to your goals and current fitness
  • Tracker setup help for selected devices and app functions
  • Progression guidance for 4 week blocks
  • Optional virtual check ins and coaching updates
  • Practical advice on hydration, recovery and session timing

Turnaround times and pricing approach

Cardio Programme setups begin after we receive your intake details and confirm the equipment you have or need. If a more detailed home gym review is part of the process, we take the extra care needed to get the spacing and equipment mix right. Urgent tracker setup support may be prioritised depending on the time of day and our support queue.

Our pricing approach is straightforward. The cost depends on whether you need only planning, planning plus tracker setup, or planning with ongoing check ins and coaching. We do not use one-size-fits-all bundles because a family in Randburg with shared equipment needs something different from a single user training in a flat in Midrand. You receive the scope first, then the price in Rand, so there are no surprises later.

For some clients, a once-off plan is enough. Others prefer monthly support for 8 to 12 weeks while the habit is being built. That option usually suits weight loss support or a return-to-fitness phase after a long break.

Maintenance and review intervals

A cardio plan should be checked regularly, especially when your fitness starts improving or your schedule changes. We suggest a review every 4 weeks for most clients, with a lighter check after the first 7 to 10 days so we can see how the sessions are landing. If your resting heart rate drops, your recovery improves, or the workouts feel too easy, the programme should be adjusted. If the sessions feel too hard, we scale back before you start skipping them.

Tracker devices also need basic maintenance. Keep the strap or watch clean, wipe sweat off the sensors after use, and charge the device before long sessions. If you train in a garage, studio, or humid room, wipe equipment rails, pedals and handles regularly so moisture does not build up. For belts, pedals, and moving parts on cardio equipment, a simple monthly visual check is usually enough for home use unless the machine gets heavy daily use.

  • Weekly self check: energy, soreness, sleep and heart rate response
  • Monthly review: zone settings, session load and recovery
  • Quarterly equipment check: cables, belts, pedals and mats
  • Immediate review after illness, injury or a long break

Who the programme suits in Gauteng and beyond

The Cardio Programme suits beginners who need structure, experienced users who want data-based training, and families who are trying to build better habits together. It works well in homes where space is limited and the equipment has to earn its keep. A compact bike, a folding treadmill, or a simple tracker setup can still produce good results if the plan is right. We support clients from our Fourways base and deliver nationwide, with regular service across Johannesburg, Pretoria and surrounding areas.

If you are in Sandton or Roodepoort and want something you can follow before work, or in Pretoria East where school runs make timing tight, the plan can be adjusted around your day. The main aim is to keep you moving often enough to improve fitness without turning every session into a hard slog. That balance makes the plan easier to stick to and easier to build progress from week to week.

Questions we get asked

Do I need cardio equipment to start?

No. We can begin with walking, step work, rope sessions or simple bodyweight cardio, then add equipment later if needed.

Can you help with my fitness tracker as well?

Yes. We assist with tracker pairing, heart rate alerts and basic settings so the programme is easier to follow.

How often should the plan be changed?

Most plans are reviewed every 4 weeks, but we may adjust sooner if your fitness improves quickly or the sessions are too demanding.
