Pretoria East Studio

A Pretoria East homeowner wanted a neat studio style room that could handle cardio, strength work and daily tracking without crowding the space. We planned, supplied and set up a practical home training area that works well for early sessions, family use and load-shedding interruptions.

Brief From a Pretoria East Homeowner

The client was a family in Pretoria East, close to Lynnwood Ridge, who wanted one room that could shift between morning cardio, evening strength work and light mobility sessions. The room had to stay tidy enough for a guest space, with equipment that could be moved quickly and tracked easily by more than one person.

The brief was clear: keep the room sleek, avoid bulky pieces, and make sure the layout supported different ages and fitness levels. They also wanted smart tracking devices for simple progress monitoring, plus equipment that could still be used during load-shedding without causing a stop-start training habit.

  • Room size: 4.2 m by 3.6 m
  • Use: 2 adults and 2 teenagers
  • Flooring: hard tile with a rubber overlay added in key zones
  • Main goal: consistent home training without clutter

Space Constraints We Had To Work Around

The room had one window, a slightly awkward door swing and limited wall space for storage. The client did not want anything fixed too permanently because the room still had to be used for occasional work calls and visiting family. Pretoria East summers also meant we had to allow for heat build-up and airflow around the cardio station.

We kept clear walking lines through the centre of the room and positioned the heavier pieces against the longest wall. The compact layout also needed to respect the home’s power backup plan, so the trackers and support devices had to charge quickly and store neatly when not in use. In practice, that meant choosing equipment with small footprints and easy mobility.

  • Clearance kept at 900 mm around the main station
  • Wall storage used for mats, bands and accessories
  • Equipment selected for low maintenance and quick reset between sessions
  • Charging points planned away from the training lane

What We Supplied And Set Up

We supplied a compact smart tracking package, a fold-away cardio unit, adjustable strength stations and a set of mobility tools for warm-ups and recovery. The tracking setup gave the household one simple way to monitor time, effort and session count without needing separate notebooks or a complicated routine. Setup help was included so each family member could start using the equipment with confidence.

To suit the room, we chose a mix that could cover different training styles. The strength side included adjustable weights, a stable bench-style platform and a multi-use frame for bodyweight and resistance work. The cardio side used a space-saving unit with a small service footprint, which mattered because the family wanted the room to stay open and airy. We also organised the starter programme so the household could begin with sensible weekly targets instead of guessing their own structure.

  • Smart trackers configured for multiple users
  • Adjustable strength equipment for progressive training
  • Foldable cardio unit for small-space use
  • Mats, bands and mobility tools for warm-up and recovery
  • Initial user guidance on pairing, charging and session logging

Installation And Onboarding Timeline

The project ran over 3 weeks from first site discussion to handover. Week 1 covered the room measure-up, user needs, power point checks and floor planning. Week 2 was for supply, delivery coordination and layout confirmation. Week 3 covered placement, setup, tracker linking and a walk-through for the household.

Because the room sat inside a lived-in home, timing had to be careful. We worked around school runs and a family calendar, so the main install was completed in one visit and the final adjustments were done later the same week. Michael Petersen coordinated the installation window and Siyanda Ntanzi followed up with support after the handover. That kept the process organised and avoided unnecessary disruption.

  • Week 1: measure-up and planning
  • Week 2: supply and delivery
  • Week 3: install, setup and handover
  • Aftercare: remote check-in for first use issues

Results In Daily Use

Once the room was in use, the family reported that sessions became more regular because everything was in one place and ready to go. The smart tracking devices made it easier to see weekly patterns, which helped with motivation and accountability. The room also stayed presentable enough for normal home life, which was one of the main concerns from the start.

From a practical side, the family got a space that could handle short weekday workouts and longer weekend sessions. The cardio station saw the most use in the mornings, while the strength tools became the main choice in the evenings. With the family fitness plan in place, the setup also supported shared use without everyone needing a different routine.

  • More consistent weekly training
  • Clearer progress tracking for each user
  • Less clutter in the room between sessions
  • Better use of a single room for multiple training styles

What We Would Repeat On The Next Pretoria East Project

We would use the same approach again for a Pretoria East home that needs a clean, flexible studio room. The key is to plan for real life first, not just the equipment list. That means checking the room flow, the door swing, the plug points and whether the household needs the room to double as something else during the day.

For this type of project, the best results come from keeping the system simple enough for the whole family to use. Reabetswe Biyela, Christo Brits and Oratile Mphahlele all fed into the handover process so the household got practical advice on training habits, product use and staying consistent. If we did this again, we would keep the same focus on low-fuss equipment, easy storage and a clear weekly plan that can be followed without needing special knowledge.

  • Keep the training zones small and defined
  • Use smart tracking that suits more than one user
  • Build around the family’s daily routine
  • Leave enough open floor for stretching and movement work

Questions we get asked

Can a small Pretoria East room still work as a studio style gym?

Yes. With the right layout, a room around 4 m by 3.5 m can hold cardio, strength and mobility zones without feeling cramped.

Do the trackers work for more than one person?

Yes. We set them up so each user can follow their own sessions, which helps families track progress separately.

What if the home has load-shedding or backup power limits?

We plan around that from the start. Charging points, session timing and equipment selection are all arranged so the room still works during outages.
